Synopsis

Chen, a divorced newspaper editor, returns to his ex-wife’s home for the weekend to welcome their daughter, Icy, and her boyfriend, Yong, back from Britain. Their arrival is disrupted when a bus driver loses their luggage, including their degree certificates, and assaults Yong. Chen reports the incident to the police.

As the day wears on, Chen realises he has overestimated his ability to put things right. He also learns that Icy plans to move to Shanghai with Yong after the weekend. Searching the black market, he finds the suitcase but runs into the bus driver, who follows him home with his gang. When Chen opens the luggage, the missing certificates reveal a secret his daughter has kept from him.

Director’s Statement

This story started when I came home from the Czech Republic two years ago. My dad and I clashed in many ways. Most of his thoughts are unacceptable to me.

In a traditional family, elders think about the family as a group, carrying on the family bloodline and glorifying the ancestors. But they will gradually realize that they are losing control of their families because young people who want to maximize their personal value need to break free. Everyone only lives once, so you should live your life to the best of your ability.
