Liew Seng Tat 劉城達
Liew Seng Tat is a Malaysian filmmaker known for his distinctive comic sensibility. He studied 3D animation at Multimedia University. His debut feature, Flower in the Pocket (2007), won awards at festivals including Busan, Rotterdam, Fribourg and Pesaro.
He participated in the Cannes Cinéfondation residency in 2008, TorinoFilmLab in 2010 and the Sundance Screenwriters Lab in 2011.
His second feature, Lelaki Harapan Dunia (Men Who Save the World), screened at Locarno and won the Special Jury Prize at the Fajr International Film Festival. In Malaysia, it received five awards at the Malaysian Film Festival, including Best Film and Best Director. His films pair a playful, childlike perspective with a sharp eye for the contradictions of everyday life.
